René Groebli passed away on 5 May 2026 at the age of 98. With his passing, Switzerland has lost one of its greatest photographic artists, who became renowned for his creativity, precision and unmistakable style. As a leading figure and through his unique body of work, René Groebli made his mark on the history of photography.
With the passing of SIYU Honorary Member René Groebli, one of the most significant Swiss photographers of the 20th century has left us. His body of work, spanning more than seven decades, represents a unique combination of technical precision, artistic sensitivity and a tireless interest in movement, time and atmosphere.
